From the commencement of “Western Europe-Western China” project implementation, works in 2028 km were completed and traffic is opened from Shymkent to border of the RF with exit to Orenburg and Taraz-Almaty section.
«In the current year works are being performed in the sections of Almaty-Khorgos (304 km), Shymkent-Tashkent (100 km) and Shymkent- border of Zhambyl oblast (81 km), which will be fully completed by the end of the year and passage will be opened along the whole corridor. In addition to it from last year the implementation of the 2-stage of Kordai bypass construction with transferring into 1 category has been commenced», - pointed out Mr. А. Issekeshev in his speech.
In view of increasing twice the intensity in Almaty-Bishkek road and rising of accidence risk Uzynagash-Otar section (with the length of 96 km of II-technical category) is planned to be transfered into 1-technical category with 4 lanes. As the result road with characteristics of the 1-category will be constructed from Khorgos to Kyzylorda, that can essentially decrease accidence risk and mortality in case of RTA.
Reference: Construction of the section will be financed at the expense of World Bank’s loan economy. In the 2 half of the current year it is planed to sign loan agreement and conduct bidding procedures. Beginning of reconstruction is 2017, the end - 2019. During construction work on the section, traffic will be carried out by existing road that excludes obstrauction of traffic in the whole corridor.
