In Kazakhstan it was figured out how to build strong roads from fragile stone

In many regions of Kazakhstan, natural materials are not used in the road industry due to their porosity and fragility.

The Kazakhstan Road Research Institute has created a new technology to increase the stability of low-strength natural stone materials so that they can be used in road construction, according to the website of the Ministry of Industry.

In many regions of Kazakhstan, especially in the western regions, natural materials have a porous structure. When used, the stone absorbs moisture, begins to deteriorate when frozen in winter, and quickly breaks down during the cyclic freeze-thaw process. Without special technologies, such material cannot be used in the road industry. Road builders have to bring materials from other regions, which increases the cost of construction.

Scientists from the Kazakhstan Road Research Institute have found a way out - the creation of a special insulating layer that will increase the stability of materials.

“We are doing such research together with chemical scientists and have found a way to make such a layer of insulation, the so-called two-component method. Both components gave positive results in the first laboratory tests,” Professor Bagdat Teltaev, the president of the institute, said.

In the near future, a new development will begin to be investigated in semi-industrial conditions. It is planned to build an experimental section of the road. If the innovation proves its effectiveness, then it will be recommended for use.

According to scientists, the technology is economical, it can be widely used in practice, especially on local roads.
