Contractor organizations started preparation works and mobilization of road construction machinery on Almaty – Khorgos road. In particular, the works are in progress for formalizing the construction grounds, shift townships and soil banks. Large-scale construction will start as early as this spring.
“The project implementation is strictly under the schedule. The road is divided into 8 lots, and four contractors have been defined. Upon accomplishing the construction in 2015, Almaty – Khorgos road will be migrated to the 1st technical category with four-lane motion”, Chairman of Motor Roads Committee under MTC Zamir Saginov told.
As is known, Almaty – Khorgos road 304 km long is part of international “Western Europe – Western China” transit corridor. Total length of the corridor in Kazakhstan territory is 2787 km, of which 2452 km are subject to reconstruction. In 2011, 215 km of the road were commissioned to operation, in 2012 – 700 km. Before the end of 2013, 806 km of the road will be commissioned. Furthermore, as part of “Western Europe – Western China” project, 479 pipe culverts, 56 bridges and 13 overhead roads will be built and reconstructed in the region. On the whole, accomplishment of transport corridor construction is planned for 2015.
