On December 7, the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan ratified the agreement for Kurty-Burylbaital and Uzynagash-Otar road reconstruction projects.
In 2009, the Loan Agreement was signed between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development for reconstruction of Western Europe - Western China International Transit Corridor.
The road reconstruction projects implemented and completed in this year in Kyzylorda and South-Kazakhstan regions resulted in saving of IBRD’s funds.
The government has taken a decision to use the saved funds for the implementation of the Kurty-Burylbaital and Uzynagash-Otar projects. Therefore, the Addendum was signed on September 26, 2017 between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
Reconstruction of these road sections is provided for by the Nurly Zhol Infrastructure Development State Program for 2015 - 2019.
The 85 km Kurty-Burylbaital road section (Category I with 4 lanes) is included in the Center-South Road Corridor and is a part of Astana-Karaganda-Balkhash-Kurty-Kapshagai-Almaty republican road. The 96 km Uzynagash-Otar road section (Category I with 4 lanes) is a part of Almaty-Kordai-Blagoveshchenka-Merke-Tashkent-Termez republican road.
The estimated amount of expenses for the reconstruction of the road sections is US$319.2 million, including the US$271.3 million Loan allocated by the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and US$47.9 million from the republican budget as well.
The Committee for Roads of the Ministry for Investments and Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan has started selecting contractors, as well as a construction supervision consultant. Contracts will be signed after the Loan Agreement comes into force.
